The Counselling Process:

At Positive Steps a number of counselling techniques are used in recognition of your individuality and what you feel most comfortable with. Clients are actively encouraged to participate in the therapeutic process and express their preferences every step of the way.

During the counselling process issues are identified; the  impact they are having is discussed; goals for the sessions are set; therapeutic interventions are explained and discussed and an overall plan is developed to ensure that you, the client, achieve the outcome you want.
Therapeutic Interventions:

*EMDR - Trauma and Phobia
* Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
* Solution focused Therapy (SFT)
* Person Centered Therapy (PCT)
* Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
* Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
* Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT)
* Skills Training
* Anger Management Skills

Benefits:

Often just having someone to talk to about what is causing distress, can in itself, be very helpful by offering both an outlet as well as being able to think more clearly and put issues into perspective. Learning new strategies and skills to deal with issues then gives you something solid to go away with and implement in your daily life. As you continue to develop and practice these new skills you effectively create a 'toolbox' of skills that you can then transfer to other parts of your life, ensuring that you are in a better position to cope in the future.
A safe, confidential, relaxed, and comfortable environment will be be made available to allow you the space and time to explore your needs and goals.
